I’m back! I hope you all have had a wonderful couple of weeks. I have missed my fellow bloggers/readers and can’t wait to catch up with you all. I hope you enjoy the review of a book I grabbed while relaxing:
Typically, on vacation I love to read some fun and easy fiction. So, when I saw that Alexander McCall Smith had put a modern spin on Jane Austen’s Emma, I could not resist. This was a big task to undertake by McCall Smith and I do not envy it. Emma was definitely a fun read, but seemed to run out of steam towards the end of the retelling. McCall Smith does capture the lightness of a Jane Austen novel and some of the humor. Also, the book seems to lose some of the tension between characters and thus the ending becomes less familiar. In the end, I found the book a fun read for vacation, but it was far from the perfect adaptation. Three stars from me.
