Today is Roald Dahl Day!!!

Of course, this wouldn’t be a book blog without a shout-out to Matilda. “The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.” I could so closely relate to Matilda getting lost in all of her books – let’s be honest I’m still doing that! Anyone else? The beauty of Roald Dahl is that his imagination enabled him to be so prolific that every one, both adult and child, has their own favorite novel. My husband’s is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Still others remember James and the Giant Peach or Fantastic Mr. Fox.
In honor of this amazing author many events are being held around the world. You should check out Roalddahl.com to find an event near you.
For my fellow Bostonians the events listed are:
- Flour is serving a James and the Giant Peachinspired the month of September.
- Union Square Donuts is serving a Fantastic Mr. Fox inspired donut all of September. Porter Square books has donated Roald Dahl books that can be bought with the donuts and proceeds will go to Partners in Health (see below).
- J.P. Licks is serving Frobscottle Ice Cream and is celebrating Wondercrump Weekend this Sunday, the 17th, between 1p.m. and 4 p.m.
It’s also noted that a portion of proceeds from all Dahlicious Delights products will be donated to Partners in Health, a charity co-founded by Ophelia Dahl, Roald Dahl’s daughter.
I’ll be sure to post updates with pics of every event I am able to go to!
‘“The matter with human beans,” the BFG went on, “is that they is absolutely refusing to believe in anything unless they is actually seeing it right in front of their own schnozzles.”’ This week, let’s try to fix that – embrace our creativity and adventure on in celebration of imagination and Roald Dahl.
Happy Reading!
